Most people unaware of blocking nuisance calls to mobiles which are ‘on the rise’!
With one in 10 people apparently receiving as many as 20 Nuisance calls a month, they are on the rise.
According to consumer group, many people have not yet realised they could avoid the torment by registering their numbers with the (TPS) Telephone Preference Service.
Research has found that 7 in 10 people (72 per cent) testified getting at least one every month. This figure was only just above half (55 per cent) in 2013.
For the study, more than 2,000 people were questioned, with two-thirds claiming to be mindful of the TPS.
But only a third agreed it could be used to block unwanted calls to mobile phones.
Overall only 3% of the UK’s mobile users are in fact registered with the TPS.
Executive director Richard Lloyd said: “It’s vital people register their phone if they want to help protect themselves from this everyday menace, with the number of nuisance calls to mobile phones are on the rise.”
“The government, business and regulators need to stay to work together to hold nuisance calls, with auxiliary action to cut them off at source and make senior executives responsible if their company is caught disobeying the rules.”
The group’s “Calling Time” campaign is backed by more than 280,000 people, which calls for more action and greater awareness to cut unwanted phone calls.
Various chief companies have also openly pledged their support.
The findings have been released as a free text service enabling mobile owners to opt out of receiving nuisance calls.
